Minimarg
A remote, scenic destination in Astore District near a sensitive border region; access is subject to official permissions and security conditions.
Minimarg is a small village in a green valley at the far end of Astore District, reached over the Burzil Pass. Wooden houses, clear streams and meadows backed by forested slopes give it a character quite unlike the bare country further north.
It lies close to a sensitive border area, and that shapes every visit. Access is controlled by the authorities, and it is the one stop on this route that we can never promise in advance.
Access to Minimarg needs official permission, and for foreign passport holders that permission is often not given. We include it only when current government permissions, weather and security conditions allow, and we will tell you plainly when they do not.

Good to know
Follow every instruction from officials on the road. Photography of bridges, posts and personnel is not allowed. Keep an alternative in mind: when Minimarg is closed we usually suggest extra time at Rama or on Deosai.
Best time to visit: Permit required, access restricted. Roughly June to September, when the Burzil Pass is clear of snow, and only with permission.
Getting there: From Astore through Chilam and over the Burzil Pass by 4x4: a long day’s drive on a mountain road with checkpoints.
