Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan
Basho Valley
A high-altitude valley known for forests, green landscapes, snow-capped mountains and access to the Basho Glacier area.
Basho is a side valley west of Skardu that climbs from the Indus gorge to high meadows ringed by pine and juniper forest. Above the last village the valley opens into green pasture, with streams running through it and snow peaks closing the view.
It is far quieter than the lakes and forts around Skardu. The reward for the rough approach is a day of forest, open meadow and clean mountain air and, for those who want it, a night in camp.

Good to know
The track is rough and exposed in places, and there are few facilities in the valley. It suits yatris who are comfortable with a bumpy ride. We suggest gentler alternatives near Skardu for anyone who is not.
Best time to visit: Typically May to October. The jeep track can be closed by snow, rain or landslides, sometimes even in season.
Getting there: Roughly 45 km from Skardu. The route follows the Gilgit to Skardu road, crosses the Indus and climbs a narrow jeep track, so a 4x4 with a local driver is needed. Allow a full day.
Route: Lahore to Skardu
Seasonal notes are typical patterns, not promises. High passes and plains open and close with the snow, and some areas need permits. We confirm current conditions with local authorities when we build your programme.
