Shigar valley, near Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan

Khoj

Included as a flexible scenic stop in the requested route; final access and routing are confirmed according to local conditions.

Khoj is a villa resort on the bank of the Shigar River, between Skardu and the old town of Shigar. Its name is the Urdu word for a search or a quest. Private villas with tall windows look across the river to the bare peaks of the Karakoram, and the Sarfaranga cold desert lies a short drive away.

On the Skardu route it is a premium place to stay rather than a sight to visit: a comfortable base for two or three nights, from which Shigar, Sarfaranga, Skardu and Khaplu can each be reached as a day trip. Yatris who prefer a hotel in Skardu town can still call here on the way to Shigar.

Khoj Resorts is an independent resort. A stay there is an accommodation option that depends on availability for your dates, and it is quoted individually with the rest of your programme.

Places to visit

  • The Shigar RiverThe resort sits on the riverbank, with villas facing the water and the mountains beyond.

  • Shigar FortThe restored 17th-century fort and the old village of Shigar, further up the valley.

Good to know

The number of villas is limited, so tell us at the enquiry stage if you would like to stay here. We offer other hotels in Skardu and Shigar at every level of comfort.

Best time to visit: Subject to local conditions. In winter the roads and flights into Baltistan are less reliable.

Getting there: About 40 minutes by road from Skardu airport, on the way to Shigar.

Route: Lahore to Skardu

Seasonal notes are typical patterns, not promises. High passes and plains open and close with the snow, and some areas need permits. We confirm current conditions with local authorities when we build your programme.
