Gurdwara Dera Sahib: a place of remembrance and Sikh heritage
Honouring the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji
Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore commemorates the site traditionally associated with the martyrdom of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in 1606. Guru Hargobind later established a memorial at the site, followed by the construction of a gurdwara under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, with the present complex further developed in the early twentieth century. Located within Lahore’s historic monument landscape near the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque, Dera Sahib offers yatris an opportunity to honour Guru Arjan Dev Ji, reflect and pray at an important Sikh site, and explore Sikh history alongside Lahore’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.
