Gurdwara Janam Asthan: a sacred connection to Guru Nanak Dev Ji
The birthplace of the founder of Sikhism
Gurdwara Janam Asthan, also known as Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, stands at the site traditionally recognised as the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, making it one of the most important Sikh pilgrimage destinations. Originally constructed around 1600 CE and renovated in 1819 to 1820, the shrine reflects the deep historical and spiritual heritage of Nankana Sahib, which is also closely associated with the Sikh reform movement and the 1921 Nankana Sahib tragedy. Yatris can experience darshan, personal prayer and reflection, explore the historic architecture and sacred courtyards, and connect with Nankana Sahib as part of a wider Sikh heritage circuit.
